1990 Mitchell 8 ft Truck Camper

Thanks for the tip. I was paranoid after reading all the leakage stories people posted, I have dicored every clearance light, some questionable seams and vents, and reinforced vents with weather tight aluminum tape. Now my Mitchell camper's close-up appearance no longer looks as pristine as when I got it a month ago. I guess when I beat it to a pulp then I'll hire a pro to renovate it back to its old glory.

First order of business is to upgrade the marker lights with some LED units.

A lot of older marker lights allow water to get in behind them due to how the bulb socket mounts in the base.

I guess in terms of fixing up older campers, maker and model no. don't matter much?

Nice! Very nice!! Isn't it fun to get your first camper???!!! I'll never forget mine, though yours is in MUCH better shape than mine was!

As far as fixing things in the future, etc., most all campers of this vintage are relatively built the same with the same appliances, etc. so you you have any problems in that regard. Just come on here and ask! :) A lot of us have had older campers (I still do!) and have done a ton of work on them.

Thanks,2Gordens, painful experience perhaps? Yes,the guy we bought our camper noticed the cab was sitting right on top of our truck. He raised it using 2x6's and we were all set. Ideally we could use a couple more of it in 8 ft length. I've come to a realization that maybe our Mitchell was rebuild in 1990 that's why it didn't have the original logo/tag plates and was sold as a 1990 instead of a pre-1980 TC. I am absolutely please with my find. It is just that I am obsessed to know more about it so if it has problems sometime down the road I'll be able to fix it.

I know absolutely nothing about Mitchells... But, that one appears to be in nice shape for the age.

You might want to put some boards down in the bed next time you load it, to give a little more clearance over the cab. That's pretty tight. If you aren't super-careful with the jacks, you can touch at the front and dent the roof of your cab... Don't ask me how I know about the possibility of such things...

Yeah, I have gone on all the suggested sites. They are amazing, however, I still couldn't find the TC that slightly resemble my Mitchell. Finally I learn how to post pics on my message to make identifying easier. Any leads or commends is highly appreciated.

That pic from 73' of Bud and Mary Janes chasis mount pulling the TT looks like a monster...Still a very good read
