1994 Jayco Sportster Questions

Noticed no one with a Jayco had replied, but most have similar plumbing. It could have been changed but, on a 96 model you should have a hose connection to connect to city water, a gravity feed inlet to put water into the tank for when there is no city water and then you should have 2 line drains, one for hot and one for cold. Last, you will have a tank drain.

The tank drain will exit below the tank (possibly through the floor) and depending on the camper, the line drains will exit through the wing extending over the bed of the truck or through the floor if the camper has a basement.

A lot of manufacturers will have online documentation for their campers that shows you where all the valves are. If you can't find a Jayco manual online, Arctic Fox puts theirs on line and it will give you an idea of where things are located.

I didn't address the sewer drains.

On a 96 model, if you have a toilet (yes, some only have a portapotty), you will have a grey water and a black water tank. Grey water is from the sink and shower (if you have a shower). Black water is from the toilet. I have seen a few post on this forum where some older campers only have one tank and few where someone had re-plumbed the pipes dumping grey water into the black. You may have to do a little investigation to figure your systems out. That's all part of the learning experience.

Words of wisdom given to me when I bought my first camper: Never, Never, Ever, use a broom stick to unstop a tank from outside the camper.

Nice camper. I don't know if it came from the factory that way, or if previous owners did some mods.

On the left side, nearest the front, that looks like the water fill inlet to the fresh water tank.

The next one back, under the window, is the sink drain. (I connect a hose and run it to a gray water jug in my truck bed).

Lastly, you have the "city" water connection. If you are in a campground with water hookups, you connect the hose here. Fresh water runs directly to the kitchen sink, bypassing your other tanks and lines.

You can test and verify all this at home. Good luck.

You can test everything. Put a hose in the filler inlet and watch the tank fill up.

Pour some water down the kitchen sink and watch it run out the side.

Hook up a hose to the city water connection, then turn on the sink. You should get cold water for sure. Hot water???? Depends on how it was set up. Just test it and find out.

In case you don't know, you have a fresh water tank, a hot water tank, and an electric water pump.

I am pretty sure you do not have a gray tank.

Pour water down the drain and see where it goes.

This weekend I'm planning on moving it up to the house so I can hook stuff up and do some testing. I know the switch at the sink is for the water pump. the Prev owner showed it to me, as the switch needs replaced.

it looks like it was originally a 3 jack camper, but was changed over to a 4 jack, all with heavy duty tripods. 3 are original Jayco ones (1000#), and the 4th is a Reico-Tital Heavy duty 2000#, though all are the same diameter. I only saw the 1000# marking, so I bought some REico-Tital 1000# extensions, but they were too small of a diameter, and a no return policy... So I bought some steel and welded up my own, which I should've just done in the first place.
When I picked up the camper, we had to have 2 guys in the back weighing the bed down to get it underneath. My truck in a 1972 K20 with a 4" lift.

You can test the pump wiring by disconnecting the two switch wires and then joining them together (bypassing the defective switch).
