2007 Ford 250 6.0 Diesel

Looking to purchase a 2007 Ford 250 6.0 diesel that has been bullet proofed. Would this be a good dependable Ford 250 to pull a Jayco 7900 pound dry weight Fifth Wheel as well as a daily driver.

From my totally non-scientific statistical analysis of reading posts on the internet, I'd run far and fast. There are lots of better options out there that don't have the history of problems. In no particular order:

    Ford V10
    Ford 7.3 Powerstroke
Chevy 6.6 Duramax (If you can find one)
    Chevy 8.1
    Cummins 5.9

    This^^^
Simply put they are other options that never required bullet proofing.
    I would not touch a 6.0

  • I had a 2007 F350 6.0 completely stock that I towed our 35' 5er with for 5 yrs including many trips over Colorado mountain passes. And it was my daily driver. Never a problem. Traded it for a 2012 F350 6.7 only because I made the mistake of browsing the new truck lot when I was in for an oil change. Bullet proofed I would have even less concern.
  • I love mine and daily drive it. My Nash is 7500lbs pulls it effortlessly. It's overkill for my trailer but i used to haul a heavy arctic Fox camper with it. I probably could get away with a 1/2 ton now. Mine is still in Stock form. 170k
  • I had a fleet of Chevy HD trucks and then went to work for a company that had some Ford 6.0 trucks. I was really surprised how different they were. The Fords were louder, started harder, rode rougher, and handled worse than my Chevy dually I drove every day.
I don't think "bulletproofing" address problems like low battery voltage taking out the Fuel Injection Control Module or the fact that you have to use Motorcraft filters to get them to seal correctly in the housing. Or the need to run synthetic oil and still change it every 5,000 miles.
    I'd pass.
  • Donn is the type post you will get from some here. I see no problem with it. I will drive mine anywhere.
  • As long as there is a paper trail to provide proper bullet proofing I'd probably say yes. I had an 05 PSD that I dumped money hand over fist into but just couldn't all of the kinks worked out and was nervous pulling our 13000/lb fiver.

I'd love to have another one for my daily driver but the the wife has other opinions on that.
  • Take your chances on a bad motor. Personally I would look for something else.
