A bullet proofed engine is only as good as the tech who rebuilt it. I would look more into the tech who rebuilt the engine and what was done. This is coming from a 6.0 PSD owner who had a 05 for 7 years and loved that truck.

Also a long time GM owner and my first diesel was a Ford.

Not necessarily, I just got rid of one that was stock except for the Ford updates because it started drinking about a half a gallon of coolant a week. It only had 130k on it. I have always been a die-hard Ford guy, but now not on their diesels.

On the upside, 07 was the best year for them. That said, most of the previous replies have merit.

If bullet proofing is a Fummins yes go for it. If not I'd pass

A lot of people throw around the term "Bullet proof" when describing the 6.0. You should get a specific list of what has been done to it, do some research, get a trusted mechanic to inspect it, and then make your decision.

Personally, I've had 4 friends who had various issues with theirs, but the common theme among them is they all ran tuners. I'd only consider one that has never been tuned. I'm not sure how you would know, though, unless they flat out told you they tuned it.

Don and i don't always agree, but as a Blue Oval believer for 43 years. When it came time for a diesel I chose to go with what many consider a less than reliable wrapper, to get a reliable Cummins.

Bought used one owner at 234,000 miles and now at 292,000 miles pulling an 11,000# 5er.

Some surprises along the way, replaced the shocks at 255K, with Bil's well the old were the OEM shocks built in 9/99.

Replaced door gaskets from LMC trucks, only because the drivers side was a bit chewed up at the floor.

I installed a small chip, and an aftermarket lift pump, and change the oil every 10,000 miles with test done at Blackstone labs.

Personally I would steer clear, but it is your money your choice. Many have stated once Bullet Proofed, they are a great engine. We just had a posting from a member that lost a Head Gasket on a 6.4, your choice.

I would NOT pay book for this truck....bullet proofed or not...many many many examples of Bulletproofed trucks needing to be re-Bulletproofed...

Head studs or not...nothing changes the fact that there is only 2/3 of the clamping force holding the head to the block as every other diesel... stabilizing the head to the block is not an easy task. Never mind the fact that everybody who does bulletproofing on a 6.0 does it a little different.

For me to consider this truck I would have to see evidence of the following.

1) BPD EGR cooler (walk away if the EGR has been deleted...not just for EPA reasons either)
2) brand new FoMoCo oil cooler with FoMoCo gaskets
3) New or professionally resurfaced heads (very hard to resurface these heads without experience)
4) new FoMoCo head gaskets
5) professionally cleaned or recently replaced turbo
6) documentation of what fuel injectors have been replaced (highly likely)
7) documentation of regular fuel filter changes (there are two)
8) presence of an engine coolant filter
9) presence of a new coolant cap
10) newish batteries
11) presence of some kind of engine monitoring system
12) spare 5k in savings for the inevitable FICM and or fuel injector failure and or HPOP

If the motor has all this and skipps or stutters at idle (even with all this work) walk away. If you see any white smoke...walk away...if you get the gut instinct that something is off...walk away...if the motor is warm when you get there...walk away.

I'll let someone more experienced than myself talk about the FICM problem.

In other words...I recommend looking for a V10 gasser or a Duramax or Cummins during this era of truck.

And this is coming from someone who really enjoys driving a well running 6.0...but I will not own one...way too much risk with not enough reward.
