Same frame, same engine, same tranny, same brakes, same rear end pretty much the same everything. And having a different rear end riser spring block and a sticker on the door doesn't bother me. :B If it did, about 15 minutes worth of work and 50 bucks worth of parts would change that. :)

I would go with #2 without a doubt. Consider a 3500 though if you need the extra payload or could upgrade your trailer in the future.

Your Duramax is a good example of why I started out trying to buy a used truck but ended up buying new instead. 6 years old and 155k on the clock and somebody paid $7000 less for it than I paid for my Ram CTD brand spanking new. Used diesels outside the bad Ford years are ridiculous.

My Ram is a Tradesman and I'm very happy with it. Has all I need plus more and I know the full service and usage history. That'd be my vote.

Well there's been a change of plans.... I looked up Blue Book on my truck and trade in was $27,000 and high retail was $35,000. Due to the mileage after only 5 years every dealership I went to only would pay wholesale auction price which was $18,000 so I had decided to just keep the Duramax. I just sold it private party for $32,000 so now I am going to get a new truck. Here are my options:

Maybe so but the 3.42 is the ONLY option for any RAM SRW truck. 4.10 and 3.73 are available along with 3,42 on their dually trucks.

Op you should consider a 3500/AISIN with rear air ride. 68RFE is a good trans but the combo I mentioned will allow for towing much more if you decide to in the future.

With commercial applications EVERY penny counts and it really can't be argued that the purchase price of a Ram is less than Ford or Chevy/GMC. We private folks often have more pennies to burn. Another factor I'd bet is the manual only being offered in a Ram.
