2011 F350 Wind Noise

I flew to Tulsa and drove home a beautiful PSD! The small dealer I purchased the truck from told me that an annoying noise had returned. At speeds above 60mph, it sounds as if a kazoo is being played. It is coming from the top part of the windshield on the driver's side. I checked the seal around the window but everything looked and felt normal.
Have you had this problem? I've talked with several and it seems to be a known issue. I have an appointment with the local Ford dealer next week but wanted to pick your brain and experience as well.
  • I had family with the issue, it was thedoor seal. There are small drain holes and he had one open up a slight tear and that was it. He repaired the tear in the trim molding and no more sound. I have also see guys replace the molding.
  • In my early days of working in a dealership service center, I had many cases of wind noise that I had to chase down. Sometimes they can very hard to find but one of the best things I was taught was to use wide masking tape and tape off moldings, body gaps, weatherstrips, glass, etc and start road testing. Eventually you'll isolate the spot that is creating the turbulence and you can then fix it by making adjustments or caulking an opening. Sometimes the smallest, least expected thing can cause weird noises. Good luck.
  • I have the exact issue. I'll be interested if someone has an easy fix. There is something on the Ford truck forums about putting some plastic cord in the seal around the door. But like you said, it sounds like it is coming from the windshield, so I am skeptical this would solve the issue. I thought mine was only on the driver's side, but the other day the wind was coming hard from the passenger side and I could hear the same noise from that side.
