Rear end ratio? If its a 3.42 then no. If its a 3.73 o 4.10 you will love it.
Really???????
My combined is 28K with 3:42 gears. It performs great! 9.5 hand calc average West Coast Towing.
Pulls 6% grades at 55 or more.
So whatever the gear ratio with the size of RV he is talking about will be no problem at all!
With the 6 speed auto the 3.42's don't hurt a thing.
WOO HOO!!!!!!!
Someone finally get's it!
I was skeptical about the 3:42's until I towed for a while with them. It's all about gears. - invstr55ExplorerFor fuel economy get a Civic, to tow get the Ram 3500 Dually then turn off the Lie-O-Meter and enjoy the journey.
- retispcsiExplorerI own a 2012 Ram CC 6.7 CTD 6spd Max Tow 4:10 dually. Had previous a 5.9 CTD 3:73 CC short bed. The new truck about 1 mpg less. The new truck more power, comfort and just fun to drive. I use truck as a daily driver. The 4:10 is awesome when the nose of th truck is pointing up and you are climbing. I didn't buy the truck for economy, I bought it to pull a heavy load. Either way these trucks use fuel. Enjoy
- YnotTurboExplorerI tow a 19,000 lb fiver with mine. You will be fine with this truck.

Looking at a 3500 dually 2012 pros and cons. will be used for towing my 5th wheel 12,000 lbs
I have had my 2011 HO since 9-11 and it has performed flawlessly with 23K on the clock.
Weak brake controller so I installed a MaxBrake. The 12 has an awesome controller.
IMHO you are looking at the best truck on the market.
I love mine!
I guess I got a bad one on the brake controller. I'm on my 2nd one, 1st one never worked from the get go and the 2nd one just doesn't work that well. The TBC in my 10 F150 was perfect. I think the Ram TBC is hit or miss IMO. Looks like a Prodigy is in my future. Can't afford a Max TBC. - ependydadExplorerMy 2012 3500/Crew Cab/Long Bed/DRW/4.10 gears gets 8-11 MPG towing. It's usually around 9. Ever fill-up is recorded and hand-calculated (well, there's an app for that).
I'm pulling a 14k (scaled, ready to camp) fifth wheel that is 42' long; 2,300 pounds of that is pin weight. Including pin weight, the truck weighs in at 11,500 which is about 800 pounds less than GVWR.
Weights:
Truck/camper Weights
I have about 15,000 miles on the odometer now. 5,000 of those have been towing miles.
On edit: I generally travel between 60-65mph and mostly stick to interstates on the east coast. - Ric_FlairExplorer

The Dodge part has given me a mental block and I'm only coming up with cons.
;) - DodgeVoltageExplorerMy loaded camper weight is around 19,500 lbs. The truck weighs 8,500 fueled and ready to go for a combined weight of around 28,000. I am also a little heavy on the pedal. I always run 5-10 mph over the speed limit where I can. I won't be the "speed bump" on the road that everyone is trying to get around. So, I could probably get 8.5 if I slowed down to the speed limit.
- machuntExploreryou only getting 8-9 miles per gallon towing? how much weight.

That terrable! My 4.10 rear ended dually gets 11.5-12.5 hand calculated all day
You're pretty lucky. My 2010 with 4.10s gets 8 mpg towing my 28K combined. Can't complain about the power, but 8 mpg hurts.
*edited to mention that, like the posts below, I didn't buy the truck for fuel mileage. I complain about it, but the power advantage far outweighs the fuel mileage issues. It takes fuel to make that power.
