2012 Tundra..any reason not to buy it

If the salesman and the dealership could have eased my concerns about the AIP issue, there would be a silver Tundra in my driveway, but his answer was that you can't believe everything that you read on the internet; yet, when I started talking about the issues with the 3.5 Ecoboost that I had read about, he started bashing Fords.

Oh well, I am a Ford guy to start with.

Sounds like a great truck. If you have to "convince" yourself that a certain truck will be right, it probably won't be and you won't ever be happy with it. I hope you like it, I've heard good things about the 5.0 as a tow machine.

With the exception of a couple of things that it doesn't have, it would have been pretty darn close to the truck that I would have ordered from the factory. 2013 XLT Crew Cab with 6800 miles.

It's got the 6.5 ft bed, 5.0 V-8, 3.55 elect. locking rear end and factory tow pkg. Got it for about $2000 less than the Trundra which was a year older and 28K more miles.

I really liked the Tundra...but it just didn't feel right. The deal with the Ford was painless, but with the Toyota, it just seemed like I was trying to convince myself to do the deal....if you know what I mean.

Glad you found a truck that makes you feel comfortable and meets your needs. Too bad it wasn't the Tundra, but its hard to "miss" with any modern truck. They all are built strong, have great engines and braking and creature comforts we could never have expected even a decade ago!

Hope the F150 works out great for you! What engine did you get?

One of the main points about the tundra that I got is from my auto mechanic of 10 years (he is a Ford guy). I see a lot less Tundra's coming into my place than Ford, Dodge or Chevy pickup's.
That was deal maker for me. After I got mine think he is now going to be a Tundra guy.

From what I had read, they had extended the warranties up to the `11's, but nothing past that that I could nail down. I did show their service advisor some of my info and he looked at me like I had two heads. I got this weird vibe from both of them and had to go with my gut instinct of not doing the deal.

I found the perfect truck for my family's needs and damnit, now I ready to go camping!!!!

Nice choice of truck, hard to go wrong with a late model Ford.

As to the Tundra AIP issue, yeah, it's about a $4,000 repair as folks have posted on the internet. BUT, Toyota extended coverage to 150K miles, so that wouldn't bother me.

Having said that, I think you made the right choice and I probably would have done the same deal you did considering the better price and lower mileage on the Ford.

Didn't Toyota extend the warranty on this part due to the many failures? I also read that they were paying some owners back who paid out of pocket to do the fix before the extended warranty came into effect.

Other than the air pump issues, I think the Tundra is a solid, but a bit outdated. Same powertrain as 2007 intro. That's 7 years. There's been a lot of development and improvement in pickup trucks since 2007.

FYI, I ended up getting a 2013 Ford for $2500 less and 25K fewer miles. But oddly enough, I bought it at a Toyota dealership.

In the course of the conversation with the salesman, he said that he use to be a service advisor at the dealership and that the AIP issues was actually significant. He did say that outside of factory warranty, that it would cost roughly $4000 to have the repair work done, which validated alot of the statements being made on the two Toyota websites.

I really appreciate all those who contributed.

My fishin partner has one '11 and other than less than desirable fuel economy it's been a good truck.
