2012 Tundra..any reason not to buy it

I am considering a new to me 2012 Toyota Tundra for $27991:
35K miles
Crew cab
5.7 V-8
2 WD
factory trailer tow package
leather
spray in bedliner
Texas Edition
Toyota Certified used vehicle

Is there any legitimate reeason I should not be considering this truck..factory flaws or defects, known mechanical issues, etc.....

Thanks
  • From what I understand from my research is that there is a regular 5.7 and then a 5.7 FFV (flex fuel).

I have seen posts on various websites that the 5.7 FFV is more problematic and a truck with this engine should be avoided. Is this what they were referring to regarding te air pump issue?
  • Have a 2012 CM, 5.7, 4wd, tow etc... and tow a 32' 11" TT (Yellow Sticker DW of 5980) with no problems. Had the AIP flash done at my 10k service and have had no issues. Look on Tundra Talk, the "howling" noise is a very rare exception.

BTW, I would say that although I am comfortable towing the weight of our TT, I would definitely not go any heavier.
  • I had a 2012 Tundra with the 5.7v8. I had to bring truck into dealer for a Recall {service bulletin} to help prevent Air Pump Failure. These 5.7v8's where going into shut down mode and would end up with no power going down the road. Part of recall was reprograming computer chip so the air pump would shut down after engine shuts off. Once I had the recall done when I would shut the engine off I would get like a howling noise from air pump in engine compartment. Toyota mechanic told me the sound is normal after the recall. I even got to meet with a Toyota engineer and he told me hay my Tundra makes the same noise! I was very unhappy with Toyota's recall result. I do not own this truck anymore...
  • If you like it go for it!

You can get a New Tundra Grade ( well equipped but not loaded) for just a few thousand more. But it will not be near as plush as the one you are looking at. You shouldn't compare just any F150 to what you are looking at.

Compare the Tundra you are considering to a King Ranch F150. You may find the price is not that far off.

    Good luck!

    Thanks!

  • Believe me, that's the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger...but there isn't a excess of Tundra's on the market now. If I go Ford, then I can easily get under 26K for a truck that has 1/2 miles.
  • Great truck. DD has one and she loves it. Maybe not the greatest of fuel economy but a good vehicle to drive and tow within it's limits.
