2013 Ford Ecoboost towing capacity

We have recently purchased this truck with the maximum tow package & are now looking for a travel trailer. One is the Jayco Eagle with a dry weight of 6305 GVWR of 8500. The 2nd trailer is a Dutchman Arerolight 225 RBSL withe a dry weight of 4862 & GVWR of 6600. We will be using on short trips but at times pulling through mountains of BC ie the Coquihailla. Any info would be appreciated
  • So the payload is 1610 if that helps any. The bigger trailer has a hitch weight of 935 lbs giving us 675 for passengers and truck cargo wich should be ample.
  • If you have max tow and heavy duty payload you should be in the 2300lb range. R u sure you have the heavy duty payload??
  • LT or P rated tires? 935 lbs with our without full lp tanks? Battery?

I went through this. Bought the trailer before the truck so I bought a 2011 F150 EcoBoost that only had 1400 lbs of payload. Bought a truck off the lot without taking the time to read the forums. Was sold on the tow rating and never paid attention to payload.

My wet tongue weight is 1000 lbs. My wdh weighs 80 lbs. Our family of four and two dogs weigh 820 lbs. That's a total of 1900 lbs of payload. 500 lbs overweight.

Traveled like this for two years. EcoBoost had more than enough power, suspension and tires were very soft. Had I gotten the max payload package with LT tires I'd still be diving that truck.

My new truck allows me to travel worry free and allows many more options in the future.

LT tires are a must. The P tires are just way too soft.
  • Thanks to all of you for info especially on pay load. Seems that car sales and trailer sales people are more interested in selling than giving the correct info. With payload of 1600 lbs changes our direction on size and weight of the trailer. We will definitely take our time and research before buying a trailer.
  • I would have a salesman's head on a platter. It's OK not to know something, but to guess because you don't know is a terrible idea.

HD payload package wouldn't have added much to your price, much less expensive than upgrading trucks.

1600 payload still isn't too bad, you just have to choose your combo wisely. You have more F150 than a lot of them on the road.
