Wow, three sets of pads in 138K miles? You must do lots of drag racing. :) Anyway you got me thinking I maybe should check mine so I stuck my phone between the spokes of my Ford and snapped a picture to see how my oem's are holding out after 45k miles. I guess if I snap another picture at about 80k miles I should be able to make a fairly close approximation of how long they will last.
Here is a heads up, you need to check the rear pad. There are three things that will make your pads wear.
1: sticking slides
2: corroded/pitted pistons bore pockets. Even with the non metal pistons they us now.
3: brake hoses that collapse and does not allow the fluid to return.
#1 will wear out the front pad before the rear.
#2 & #3 will wear out the rear pad.
from your pic, your pads about then 2/3 warn. Now I don't wait until the pads are metal on metal before I change them. My first set was changed at about where yours are right now, maybe a little less but not much. Non of mine have ever hit the wear sensors until this last set. I changed my hubs before they were needed, same with my inner and outer tie-rod ends. Why? The upper ball joints needed replaced, so why wait until something fails then costs you more in the long run. To bad we can't get management to subscribe to this philosophy, we would have a lot less down time and make a lot more parts.

I read this thread just for the laughs. Didn't even watch the video. I could not care less about another stupid You Tube video.
But when Jim reports he caught a "PILE of small mouth bass and pan fish on the river." Right after a heavy rain storm...well that gets my attention right there.
:B..SON, almost every cast on the Greenbriar River that flows through Pence Springs WV, I caught something, either a smallie, "Red Eye", or Rock Bass and Sun Perch....nice size bass, several over 15" long..not big, but fought good, caught everything on spinners while floating and rowing up and down the river on my kayak....yeah, you can't beat it...:)
..AND, it was right after a fairly heavy rainstorm...cleared up and now it's about 85 degrees and sunny.
oh...my bad...got side tracked...we were talking about...uh....HEY, I'm going back out this evening, believe I'll try a top water plug..yeah..hey, beats the heck out of talking about TV's:B
You are a much better fisher than I am. I never catch anything after a rain storm.
Oh yeah...tow vehicles...Right. BTW those are some nice fish. Must have been a great day for you. Out there in nature. Watching the wildlife. Listening to the sounds of the river. The water under your paddles. Feeling the warmth of the sun on your face. A little breeze on your back. A nice hit on the line. A nice hook set. The fun of a nice little fight. Landing a nice fish. Then the thrill of letting it go...or not. PERFECT. OH yeah....Almost forgot...Then getting back into that new tow vehicle to get back to the RV. That's pretty cool too.

LMAO, only shows a tuned truck can kick it off the line. BTW the clown in the D-Max was doing the counting so he know exactly when to launch, as evident by the fact that the clown in the Ram did start.
As far as "Pretty good testimony to durability when being abused" unless you know the truck that is a ridicules comment don't you think? Kind of like the clowns around here the say....I have 180,000 miles and are still have the OE brakes, tires, ect,ect on and on. Come on really, no wonder GM needed money from the Gov, they never sell any parts.
Don
That was a poke at Cummins12V98
He was suggesting the Dmax had a programmer.
And I must be a clown. My 2001 Dmax had 134K on it when I sold it and still had about 1/3 life left on the pads. My trucks spend 70-80 loaded heavy..So yes it is very possible for the Dmaxes to go 200K on a set of brakes.
I expect my 2011 will do even better as the brakes were upsized considerably.
LMAO well sorry but I have never seen a Chevy/GM go anywhere near 100K on the original equipment pads but 200K nope not buying it. I have done a few brake jobs on GM trucks and none had anything close to 100K. But if you are saying you run 70-80% of you driving "loaded heavy" and still had 1/3 of your pads @ 134K you are one of the very lucky few. But I'm sure your GM/Chevy fan club pals will be posting telling me how they get even better mileage then you!
Man I should have bought a GM because I just spent $685 on new rotors, calipers and pads @138K and OMG that makes the third set of pads and second set of rotors, damn junk Rams! LMAO
Don
Believe whatever you want. GM got the brakes right.
I had a Dodge 1 ton SRW before the Chevy. It needed brakes at 50K
Sorry but it's the truth...And one reason I bought another Chevy. But my Dodge was a one time experiment. - 4x4ordExplorer III

- Perrysburg_DodgExplorer"I dunno Don, trash GM if you want, but there it is. Who the driver is has a lot to do with brake life. Never driven a Dodge/Cummins more than about a couple hundred miles, so no base line to see if long brake life is possible, but I'm betting if it is I can do it.
"
Not "trashing" GM one bit, I have owned several, and routinely work on them. I have never seen one not one of any make go 100K+ on pads, never.
I paid $245 dollars for the last set of Raybestos Professional Grade Ceramic pads and they went almost 60K. Would have got maybe another 10/15K had the caliper slides not seized up. But I probably only had 10,000 miles of towing on these pads. So I decided to go with NAPA's loaded premium calipers, rotors and extreme service pads. Note: the store traded out the pads that came with the calipers for the ESP.
Just a heads up no I don't ride my brakes. I don't what tell the last minute to brake. In layman's terms, I don't trash my truck and would have only get around 70-75K on what was rated one of the top pads out there.
Don - Engineer9860ExplorerMy wife's 2001 Silverado 2500HD has 90,000mi with 50%+ on the original pads. I know, I check them at every 3,000mi service. Her truck regularly tows, and hauls heavy so no cop out there.........
My 2008 F-450 work truck has almost 200,000mi on its original pads at all 4 corners, and look to go to the 1/4 million mile mark with ease. My work truck is routinely loaded to the GVWR limit.
My '97 Chevy Blazer at 275,000mi has just had its third set of front pads installed. Original rotors. And I might add, original rear shoes, and drums.
A couple of years ago I sold my 1990 Suzuki Samurai that I bought brand new. When I sold it it had 250,000mi on the original front brakes. Rear shoes are all that had ever to be replaced and that is because the parking brake cable became froze, and wouldn't release.

Don - NC_HaulerExplorer..I catch and release, unless it's trout(yummy)...oh yeah, Chevy versus Ram....anyway, getting ready to try out my fly rod just for the heck of it....oh, did someone say there was a tuner involved? Reminds me, I need to check out my fly rod reel, "tune on it", so to speak....:)

Last thing I would do with a brand new $40K to $60K Cummins with 146 miles on it is run a drag race! I might think about it at about 5K to 10K miles.
The old saying, "More money than brains", would be the perfect caption for some of these "racing from light to light" and "racing to the top of the mountain with a load" videos. I didn't gloat when I owned the Chevy's that won some of those shoot outs....never know when you could lose or something happens to your truck while doing these kind of things...As stated, you sink the kind of money one puts in these trucks, no matter the brand, last thing I want to "go out of my way" and do, is abuse it...don't get me wrong...I have in the past, but finally "got a clue" and "grew up", (my wife told me to do that:))...
I'm one of those guys, though right or wrong, that belives about the time I start gloating about something of mine, or cut on something someone else owns, the next thing that will happen will be something go wrong with whatever it was I was gloating or bragging on and it'll just come back to "bite me"...so I try to stay neutral, though it is hard with some on these forums who go "above and beyond" to take digs at the lowly Ram truck and their owners, as THEY see or depict it...BUT, if it keeps them busy and out of trouble....more power to them, glad we Dodge owners can help make your day...Happy July 4th.:B
I had a happy July 1 but happy July 4th to you NC. You take things too personally .... I would have enjoyed the video just as much if the Ram had wasted the Chevy or if a Ford had got humbled. Until Pickuptrucks.com comes out with something better the you tube videos will have to do. All three of these trucks are fast enough for me so first up the hill isn't going to come into play on deciding my next truck. Fuel economy could though.
Story of my life...take things too seriously:)..oh well, we're all different, guess I look at things a little differently than I did years ago...just ignore me and I'll eventually go away:) Not much into Utube, unless it's watching some sports replays :)....Anyhoo, if I offended you by my reaction, I apologize...I need to get off this forum, it appears I make too many people mad, or offend them and I really don't go out of my way to do that....sorry...........
Hey you can leave when your Guinea Pig/Beta Tester contract is fulfilled and not one minute sooner Mister!
