2014 Ram SRW 3500. do I need a slider hitch for a FW?

Wife and I just signed the paperwork for a 2014 keystone Laredo 329RE. This is my first FW. We are seasonal, so I'll only be towing the FW twice a yr. I don't need a fancy hitch, just a plain no frills set up. What do you guys recommend? And do I need a slider? Crew cab 6.4 bed.
  • One of the few new rams with pic frame adapter that I have seen that is level. Your husky hitch must be able to adjust down a good bit? Looks good!
  • My salesman told me to call u-haul for a fw hitch price. Said they are the cheapest around. Guy qouted me $678.00 installed. I'm wondering how good of a hitch it is, and if it's going to rip out of the truck...
  • I'm using the old hitch from my previous truck. 16k Husky. Yes I have the factory hitch prep. I also use the "picture frame adapter" from reese to make the old hitch work.

  • ib516,
What hitch are you using and do you have the fifth wheel prep on your Ram?

  • Thanks.... Ib, I was hoping you spotted this thread as I knew we had the same trucks, kinda, mines a 3500. I tried pm'ing you, but im not on your buddy list. Why is that;)
  • No slider needed with that contoured front end cap. Yes, it can contact at full 90 degree turns but you remember that and don't turn that hard. No different than remembering not to jackknife a travel trailer. If you go to far it will hit. Just don't go to far. As for a hitch, it depends if you don't mind having rails in your bed. For a clean bed floor go with a Reese Elite. If you don't mind having the rails in the bed, Curt makes a nice value hitch.

Now, if you are really worried about needing a slider, I'd go with the Reese Revolution pinbox instead. It moves your pivot point back 18" and you can go in circles all day without hitting the cab. Again, not really necessary but some people like the piece of mind it adds.

Congrats on the new trailer! Have fun...
