- larry_barnhartExplorerI never care what a truck looks like just how good it drives and the reason I like a GM truck. I am old.

Spree 318 should be good with an extended payload half ton, NHT GM or Max tow F-150.
If I watch what I eat...
My calcs have the tongue weight @ 925# + family (~500#). Not much left over.. Especially if travelling with 4 bikes, invertor, etc. And I definitely need a crew cab, I'm 6'6, wife is 5'9, and kids are off the charts for their heights.
I like the idea of not caring what I put in the truck box (for the most part), and still being able to tow my trailer. I just really don't want to have a 1 ton sized truck as it doesn't fit in most parkades.
Like I said, I think it's a pipe dream.. I'll probably end up with a megacab 1 ton.. I just wish they (manuf), would take tongue weights into account when "choosing" tow ratings. - MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerI prefer the squared off fenders of the GMs trucks. They have had this for many years, and I feel is a jeep like look that I like.

GM has the NHT package since at least 2009 which is similar to Ford's Max towing package. It continues with expanded availability for 2014. Still 6-lug, but raised rear spring rate and GVWR. I have not heard of GM offering an equivalent package for Ford's HD payload F-150. That's a very niche market, despite how often it is discussed on RV forums. Most are custom orders.
Anyway, typical 2009-2013 Ford/GM crew cabs with EB/5.0/5.3L sit on dealer lots with 1400-1500 pounds of payload. Improvement for the masses is a good thing, even if maybe not enough for a family towing an 8k pound TT.
But as we all know, payload is the limiting factor on all half tons, at least in regards to towing RV's.
I digress.. I'm just being greedy in not wanting to buy a new 3/4-1ton truck for my borderline halfton trailer.. - APTExplorerGM has the NHT package since at least 2009 which is similar to Ford's Max towing package. Payload sucks? Should be up 250 pounds over a comparably equipped 2013. 2014 went on a diet. GM/Ford half tons already had the best payloads for crew cab trucks.
The 2014 5.3L puts out nearly identical power to my 6.0L, very comparable to Ford's 5.0L with better fuel economy and in a pushrod design!
The highest payload is 2007lbs (5.3L short box crew 2wd, and I'm sure that's the WT, not a decently equipped truck, FYI, the longer wheelbase doesn't get higher capacity like ford). Comparable ford =1925#, BUT, with the HD package 6.5ft box bumps to 2325# (ford 1947#). That's a 20% difference.
Not to mention the higher payloads for the reg cab/supercab. I'm hoping GM comes out with a higher payload crew/6.5ftbox/4x4 (you know.. Similar to what I have now), but I doubt it will happen.
Everybody knows that todays trucks are leaps and bounds more powerful than trucks of yesteryear.. That doesnt mean the rest of the truck can handle it. - aclayExplorerAs stated, the HD's are coming in 2015. There are some spy shots out there. Great youtube video of some guys in Canada that caught 2 of the HD's on the road up there for testing.

Not digging the square fender wells. Tires are round! Looks funky to me.
