After my last post I decided to except a Good Deal on the truck posted in subject line and took Delivery 9/26... 9 Freaken Days!!!Truck has 350 miles on it..I went to GYM this morning, about a 12 min drive.. Only thing I did different this morning is run the heat as it was a little chilly..Got to Gym and Smoke was coming out from under Hood and coming into the cabin of Truck and there was a strong smell of Diesel Fuel..I wanted to jump back in and take it Home but I said Screw it and did my workout and then took it home about a hr and half later to have the Same Problem..Worked up the courage to drive the truck 25mins to dealer 3hrs later. Had same problems at first but once I got to highway and highway speed finally to dealer didnt seem as bad but still had alot of diesel smell and so on,meaning other smells and wierd ticking coming from engine..Can't talk to dealer til tomorrow but does anyone have a Idea on this?????Punch line of this is------ Im suppose to be getting our First fifth Wheel on Thursday in NY (4HR Drive) and then Camping That wknd.. This has the potential to Screw it all up....I Know some will say, should have bought Ford or Dodge so spare me. Otherwise, Anybody have something similar happen????

Sorry, I have no ideas, but I don't think I would drive it. Could be a fuel leak under the hood which could mean a fire.

Hopefully you left it at the dealer to deal with tomorrow monday. Then hopefully it is a simple fuel line or equal problem. This would not be the first rig with an issue off the lot.....lets see, two with alternator/bad batteries, one with a starter a week after purchase.......there built by humans, humans err! altho there seem to be a few on this forum that are PURRRRRRRRFECT.....yeah right!martyps, shoulda bought a GMC, not a chebby!:)

The cassette player in my brand new 87 Ranger didn't work, I was bummed. Dealer pulled the unit sent it out for service I was without tunes for a month.

The first few burn the oils out of the exhaust system, hence the smoke, but the diesel smell sounds like a leaking down pipe. It is a known issue. They try realigning the pipes and re-clamping, a lot of times they replace the down pipe.if you want more help check out diesel place forum.

x2 or 3 for how much it sucks having a new toy and it breaks early. I didn't have any mechanical problems but when I got my Ram new the GPS nav stopped working during my first trip and sure ticked me off. Turned out to be a simple software update that I could do on my own so no sweat but still - ticks you off for sure.

Glad you are on the road to a solution. I can only imagine it was disheartening to have a problem that quick on such a pricey rig. Yeah, I'm a Ford guy, and I don't even own a diesel (unless you count my tractor :B ), but I do my best not to bash, and we're all on this forum because we have a common thread. I have friends with GM, and Dodge/Ram trucks and I really don't think you can go wrong with any of them. You made a great choice. Good luck.

Dealer Said it is the Down Tube and that they had to order a "Clamp" as well as a Regen.. You guys are awesome!! Thanks

Yep....right about on schedule. I thought mine was catching on fire.

I also believe there is a strong possibility of a fire so I would absolutely drive it. If it burns to the ground you may then be able to "shop around".

I sure will. I have previously owned two duramax trucks, an 05 and 11. I switched to a Ram last year as I needed a dually and Ram is the only manufacture that makes a short bed dually truck.

I did a lot of research and reading on forums and all I heard was how powerful the cummins is.

After coming from a new generation duramax, to a new generation cummins with identical axle ratios, the cummins really lacks the acceleration and towing capabilities that I was accustomed to.

I really like the truck, but not a huge fan of the cummins/aisin and the solid front axle. I really miss the dmax/allison with IFS.

But, as they say, no point in crying over spilled milk. I will keep it for now as its paid for.

Sounds like he expanded quit a bit. :B

It's the downpipe leaking. Actually a pretty common issue. Take it to the dealer and go have a drink.
