2015 F150 2.7L MPG

TFL Truck did a test. 22.8 mpg when running empty on the highway. Surprisingly close the the in cab display which many say reads too high.

  • They said they drove 65 so they could also test at the same as speed pulling a trailer at some point. I took it to mean that 65 is the limit when towing in CO.
  • Actually I'm impressed with 23mpg from a truck with this capability and considering the price of gas vs diesel this new Ford will have a very low operating cost in comparison to the Ecodiesel.

Also I'm interested how much fuel economy is affected at this altitude. I suppose at normal elevations the fuel economy would be even better.

As far as the fuel economy testing in this video I like the fact that the test included driving in two directions to average out some of the environmental effects, but would have like to see them drive 70 mph.
  • I'm going to say, not impressed. My 10 year old 7,000# truck will bust those numbers all to pieces driving the same exact route at 65 MPH. I'm pretty sure my '13 will get those numbers under the same conditions. It just wouldn't do it when you add regenerations in but it does weigh in at 8,000# too. I'm impressed with that little motor making the power it does but not the fuel mileage.
  • I like these guys and the tests, but the logic of only going 65 doesn't make sense. I would like to see real world mpg's for trucks in this category and real world here is 75 mph on the interstate and why simulate towing conditions without a trailer, 65 empty and 65 towing are two different ball games anyway. Last and probably least, you can tow a trailer here right up to the 75 mph speed limit unless otherwise posted. Anyway, still love this truck but his logic is ridiculous and actually doing the posted speed limit would have effected the mpgs of that truck.
  • I believe the highway estimate was 23 so not bad. What is surprising is the amount of power that little sucker makes. It betters the last generation 5.4L NA motor in HP and TQ.
