Employee pricing is basically invoice minus hold-back and minus advertising. The dealer is required to pass to the customer any current incentives whether customer cash or dealer cash and are limited to the amount they can charge in DOC fees. These sales are audited at the dealership on a regular basis for the dealers who do a number of them.
While a dealer can sell a vehicle at any price they wish, they cannot sell a vehicle at true employee price and not lose money. Those who advertise selling at GM employee price normally do so by not passing on some incentives presently offered and are in violation in most states of "Truth in Advertising" laws. A number of dealers simply advertise "Employee Pricing" and if pushed purport that to be their own employee's prices.
