- ivbinconnedExplorer IILearned today that now Ram has factory aluminum driveshafts. Friend has a 2020 with one.
Will install mine tonight. - ACZLExplorerIMO, sounds like a U-joint if at Hiway speed. Had a '91 GMC 2500 ext cab, LB, 4x4, 454 and it had a shudder upon take off. Ended up that GM re-located the driveshafts so angle of things was better. Cured the shudder. Don't recall now the driveshaft configuration......sorry.
- ivbinconnedExplorer IIIt wouldn’t tighten up with grease.
- FishermanExplorerUse an injector needle on the grease gun.
- Lar_sExplorerHow do you lube the slip joint behind the center bearing when it's covered with a rubber seal?
- hotpepperkidExplorerLube the slip joint
- Grit_dogNavigatorYou’ll love it.
How many miles? That’s a pretty new truck. - ivbinconnedExplorer IIThat’s a better looking bearing than stock.
I had to decide so an hour ago I gave the go ahead with a single shaft build.
Built by a driveline shop that says they have built a good number of them and had no problems. They guarantee their work.
Heavy walled tube.
Searching the Internet I find many proponents and many negative about this.
I’ll let you know how this works out. - garyp4951Explorer III
- mhsmithExplorerChirping on take off usually indicates a u-joint going out. Carrier bearing will often make a roaring sound similar to newer hub bearings. Strongly advise not to go with single driveshaft. It will need to be heavierand even if it is built properly...the extra length will cause the shaft to want to spin kinda like a jump rope and cause another set of problems. If you have a lot of miles on the truck...may be a good idea to have the other u-joints and the carrier bearing replaced at the same time.
