I believe it but going to leafs on the 3500 must be for load reasons, otherwise why not use coils on it as well.
I read somewhere on the internet that the coil suspension is further inboard on the axle than a leaf suspension. That could result in more body roll, as more weight could be "outside" of the suspension. Obviously, this must be true or they wouldn't allow it on the internet. I wonder if that is partially to blame...?
Ram rates the coils at 6,500 lbs with the 18" wheels, whereas they rate the leaf springs at 7,000 lbs with the 18" wheels. Not much actually load carrying difference between the two...
I've never heard that explanation but it does have some plausibility.
Okay, for that matter, the 2500 has bump stops outside of the coils. If you were to add air bags or timbrens in that location it would give you additional support further outside the center line and decrease the body roll. In that scenario you would effectively give you the same load bearing as the 3500.
I just ordered timbrens this past Sunday and they are suppose to arrive today. I plan to install them tonight because I'll possibly be towing a triple-axle enclosed gooseneck trailer this weekend. I guess we'll find out!!
