Hard to tell from the picture but I believe the 3500's factory air is under the frame, not inside?
Anyway, the difference in RGAWR is ony 500# and is a pretty minor issue IMHO.
Yes, the 3500 still has the leaf springs, but those aren't meant to support significant weight, hence the factory air suspension. Those springs are essentially meant to carry the empty weight of the truck and provide a smoother ride. When you load that 3500 up with substantial weight (like a 5th wheel), the air bags are carrying the majority of that weight. The airbags are positioned in a very similar manner as the coil springs on the 2500. That was my point.
