To add to my previous post:
If we're going to ignore payload ratings and focus just on RAWRs alone, interesting to note the empty rear axle weight vs. RAWR difference on many 3/4-ton trucks is approx. 1,500 lbs. higher than a Cummins Titan XD. A significant difference. Based on RAWRs alone, this means a typical 3/4-ton truck has ~1,500 lbs. more payload capability than a Cummins Titan XD.
My position has always been the Cummins Titan XD is basically a 1/2-ton truck in terms of raw payload capability--especially in the most popular 4x4, crew cab versions. For some, this is unfortunate in light of the very capable Cummins/Aisin drivetrain.
I believe Nissan is going to find their Titan XD gassers filling the tweener void they originally intended the Cummins Titan XD to fill. With payload ratings 500 - 600 lbs. higher than a similarly equipped Cummins Titan XD, the Titan XD gasser provides a payload capability that fills a legitimate void in the marketplace.
