- ricaticExplorerWell... I see that after another year passed by...the Bosch CP 4 discussions continue...me...I bought the 2015 Ram and have put 20000 miles on it...very happy with the purchase...the CP 4 is a deal breaker for me so I am twice as happy that I bought the 2015...I see the truck lasting me for years so I have no concerns about what any of the manufacturers do until then...
Glad to be back

OK all you knowledgable people WHY have we not heard about CP4.2 pump failures like we used to??????
All mfg have upped the fuel filtration systems. The CP4.2 does not like any moisture. All diesel fuel contains some moisture and contaminants.
Higher pressure pumps simply can not handle contaminated fuel. You cant fix the fuel problem so you must be able to treat the fuel problem.
yeah well what about all the 2011-2013's driving around with OEM filtration for that MY? where's the catastrophic failures?
I am not going to answer it for you but a simple Google search will find your answer.
so you don't know then
No! They have problems. You want me to supply links and verbiage to back it up. I have already done my homework and know the answers. I feel you are in front of a computer and can do your own research and answer your own question.
posting a couple "horror" stories doesn't prove anything other than a few people can make a lot of noise.
so either all fuel makers radically fixed these contaminated fuel issues or the issues weren't as wide spread as some would have you to believe.
Just a few class action lawsuits against Bosch and the CP4, no big deal.
Strange you never hear people talk about the CP3 badly, all you ever hear is how good it is. - gmcsmokeExplorer

I also believe the fuel suppliers were forced to improve the quality of their diesel after insurance companies forced them to pay up.
Having said that I have drained some small amounts of water from the water/fuel filter.
According to this recent report, not in the US. Canada has better quality diesel vs the US. Been that way for many years. Canada diesel meets Bosch quality requirements.

I have owned 3 diesel trucks since 1996, have done all of my own maintenance and never seen any trace whatsoever of water in the fuel/water separators in any of them. Saying that, the CP4 failures have occurred here in Canada as well. - Me_AgainExplorer III

Well if you maintain your fuel filter with a quality filter NOT the 3 dollar junk E-Bay/Amazon filters and also buy quality fuel you won't have a problem.
If you are that worried about a CP 4.2 failure than buy a gasser not a diesel. It really is that simple.
Don
Or buy a pre 2019 Cummins 6.7L and forget about the worries......:B
The problem with that is you will need to buy before they are all gone.
Oh and since Troy didn't post it Ram HD a 6.4 Hemi.
Yeah but wait for the 2019 gasser with more gears. The 6 speed Hemi has ratio issues. Perrysburg Dodgeboy wrote:

The new ZF transmission should be a quantifiable improvement.- Perrysburg_DodgExplorer
