I like how they praise the inline 6 design as being superior to a "V" design. I wonder what the HD division guys at GM think of that marketing strategy?
Well it works for semi trucks, they're mostly straight sixes. A mechanic explained it to me once, can't remember what he said exactly but I remember it made sense. - JIMMY034Explorer

why do you know about a timing's best position? Chevman
The Chevy 3.0 Duramax has been delayed due to the EPA which is a shame, but not surprising. Also not a fan of the timing chain installed on the rear of the engine.

I'm thinking common sense. Future repairs? It'll double the cost as they'll most likely have to take the engine out or at the very least it'll double the repair time since it'll be so much harder to get to. - bobsallyhExplorer III sure hope they went back to Isuzu for help in designing this piece like they did for the development of the original Duramax. If they didn't they will PO light truck diesel owners off again.
- Me_AgainExplorer IIIBuick straight 8's were called crank twisters.

They were comparing a V6 which requires a balance shaft. The V6 is not naturally balanced. A V8 does do not require a balance shaft.
But the V8 is naturally balanced and is used to reduce overall length for a large displacement engine. - LynnmorExplorer

I hope they put it in a Burb/Yukon XL. With proper cooling capabilities.......
Bingo!
And if GM want's to really blow away the competition, bring on the HD Duraburb for real!
Don't forget about the third party, the gubbermint and its CAFE standards for passenger vehicles. - ib516Explorer II

Probably think it's just another marketing strategy
Well anyone with a grain of intelligence could then extrapolate that they (The GM 1500 diesel marketing team) are, in a round about way, praising the Cummins inline 6 in the Ram, and saying it's superior to their "V" design 6.6L HD diesel.
Kind of seems contrary to the usual automotive theme of "all of our stuff is the best" that they usually spout.
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how it holds up being a clean sheet design engine with a relatively new transmission.
Try to connect the dots when gm went from inline engines in the previous gen Colorado trucks back to v6 engines in the current gen Colorado trucks
Yea that inline 5 was much to do about nothing (special), V-6 economy with V-4 power.
Agreed! My wife had a Hummer H3 with that dog of an engine. 4 speed auto and 4.10 axles, but huge tires. It was forever shifting in and out of overdrive when going down the road. The slightest grade or headwind would cause a downshift. - ksssExplorer

It's time. I'm still astounded that, in the market we're in right now and the fact that 90% of the HD SUVs are now old clapped out piles of ____ that GM or Ford, or even Ram hasn't put out a HD suv again.
Would make half of the bitsching about weight ratings and towing capacities on forums like this go poof and disappear!
Think of all the soccer moms who idle there cars for hours and will put around town with the dpf clogged to the hilt and constantly in regen mode.ib516 wrote:
