If it’s an ‘07 with the 4L80E that means it’s a 2500 or 3500 with the 6.0L. Arguably a bullet proof engine, but the gearing in the 4L60E and newer 6/8/10 speed trannys are way more favorable (at least comparing first gear, which is critical for towing or getting rolling). - MFLNomad IIHey Marty, glad your truck is working out great for you! You are a good example of getting the job done, doing real work, with a 1500, and a 4.3! Better tires, or even air the OEMs to the max, maybe a bit of suspension tweaking, and they'll get er did.
Ford took a big jump with the 150s, using the Ecos, and 5.0 since 11-12.

Not even in the same ballpark as the OP's truck.
I'd bet my 4.3 would better do speed wise, get better mpg too!
Can't compare the 07 to a 2022. That's like comparing my old 89 4bbl 454 to the later vortex versions! Or an 8.1 with an Allison!

Grand son has a 5.3 in GMC Sierra. Seems to be under powered!
What year and transmission?
My 2014 4.3 has more grunt than my son's 05 4.8V8. outpulls my old 2000 c2500 with a 350V8..better than some of my old BB rigs too. A lot has to do with the 6 gears in transmission vs 3 and 4 spd transmissions. BUT my 4.3 has more HP than all of them. Better torque multiplication due to trans gears.
Older than 2014 are weaker motors!
Marty - JIMNLINExplorer IIIOlder 5.3 were under powered compared to the '14 and up 5.3 with 355 hp and 383 torque with 6/8/10 speed trannies.
Wifes older '06 1500 5.3 with the 4 speed tranny chevy crew cab short bed Z71 3.73 gears would downshift on hills or fighting 35-40 mph head winds not towing.
She has the same truck in a 2016 model and its hands down a better towing platform. The new 5.3 has a lot more low end grunt and 5k-6k rpm hard pulling performance than the '06 for towing duties. And being a small block its not going to pull long steep grades in OD when towing in OD gears.
The OP didn't say but if the truck has the NHT tow packages its another big plus for towing duties.
Sounds like another good match. - It pulls hard going over the passes. It searches for gears when on slight inclines. This is empty truck with two people on board.
