This is false, and has been proven wrong so many times here. The rating on the door has no legal ramification to the consumer. It is only there due to the TREAD Act of 2000 requiring all manufacturers having a tire load limit sticker on all new vehicles. This happened because of the Firestone/Explorer rollovers of the late 90s.
What does have legal ramifications is the GVWR that you register your truck for.
Aren't we saying the same thing? Payload, GVWR, whatever the rating, if you are over it, there are legal ramifications.
