If the truck configuration you want is available in both 3/4 and 1 ton, go with the one ton. The only reason I got the 3/4 ton is GM still does not make an extended cab 6' bed 1 ton. But I did my homework and for my model year with the diesel, my 3/4 ton has the same axle, brakes, etc as the 1 ton. The only difference I could find was the spring pack. The gas 3/4 ton did use a lighter axle.
