My 4500 is the exact same truck as the 5500, 'cept the spring pack. But do I wish mine was a 5500? You bet. I am about 1500 over my GVWR, though I have made suspension mods. The 'badge' and the 'sticker' are just that.....not really much of anything......but......in an accident, or if I get forced to a scale (my truck 'looks' commercial) or if I was in Canada where they seem to take it more seriously.....I'd feel a heckuva lot better with the silly little sticker instead of saying "but honest, the only difference is the spring pack" to an LEO.
I'm clearly not the WP, and being an engineer at heart what matters is the actual truck, including mods and real world capability......but in this day and age and point in my life I feel a lot better with the 'sticker' and 'badge' on my side in an argument, especially a legal one.
PS: When I say the 4500 and 5500 are the same except the spring pack, the key point here is "in 4x4 trim." Non 4x4 versions have all sorts of combinations including right up to 26K GVWR in the 5500. In 4x4, the 4500 = 17,500 and 5500=19,500. The 4x4 5500 would be a perfect match for my GVW. There is also a theory that the 5500 brake proportioning is different for the 5500 putting a little more power to the rear but I have never been able to confirm that.)
