4x4 vs 2x4

When towing, I've only needed 4x4 twice in 8+ years. Both times after a heavy rain, once on grass, once on dirt. I could live without it for summer towing, but I'm more comfortable with it there.

The rest of the time the truck is my daily driver. 4x4 gets used far more often in that role out here. Prairie blizzards and a steep driveway make it a good investment.

For me, I'd rather have 4x4 and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

I have used my 4x4 a couple of times.

I use mine maybe once a year but then I go some places that I wouldn't if I didn't have it.

We have been on the road for almost 2 years, and have never needed 4x4. If you are in a dually, you are not going to be doing a lot of 4 wheeling anyway.

4x2 gives you more carrying capacity, and less maintenance. 4x4 has better resale value by a little bit.

Personal preference, but we haven't missed having a 4x4.

We prefer boondocking and at least a couple of times a year our 4WD gets us where we want to be, and more importantly, back out and on the road when it's time to go. Your money your call, as for upkeep I spent absolutely nothing on 4WD related issues on my last 3 trucks. Enjoy your new truck and 5er!!!

4x4 or 4x2 is a personal choice. Honestly in my 30+ years of towing a camper. I have never needed 4x4. I had them, and have one now, only because it had everything else I wanted. 4x4 did not enter into the decision.

Honest truth. A 4x2 truck will tow better than a 4x4. It will be more stable. Why, I don't know. But my 2WD trucks have all been more stable, and steady than any of my 4x4 TVs. Maybe it is the height. I have talked to others that found the same thing. 4x2 is just better for towing. My 2004 F150 4x2 was much more stable than my 2013 4x4 is. Neither has sway problems. But I can feel the TT more with this truck.

So it is your choice what to get. Your money, your truck. You are the only one you have to please.

I have always had a 4x4 to get to work. Didn't think I needed one if I wasn't in New England in the winter. Boy did we have fun in Utah, even with just the excursion. 4x4 lets you explore, but you might not need it. We used it over then once to get out of a camp spot.

You would be unwise to visit those areas without 4WD tho we only used it occasionally on the dirt roads in.

But on the downside you have more gear to maintain on the truck and it adds weight which subtracts from payload. I've never needed it in the snow myself.

Even if you will never drive in snow, if you go out west, you will see roads that are marked 4x4 only. If you don't want to drive on those roads, and will stay in paved parks and campgrounds only, you will be fine without 4x4.

It really comes down to what kind of camper you are. There is no blanket right or wrong answer. Only right or wrong for you.

I have owned both and will stick with a 4X4, when u need it Man U need it....even in Florida! Your call cause it's your money. Me I would pass on the 6.4 and go to the 6.7. Just my take, good luck on your decision!
