I have a comparable sized 5th wheel. I am looking at going to a 4th gen Ram, and I have read both of your larger threads on the new truck. I am still deciding between 6.4 and Cummins. Drove both a couple miles yesterday and was impressed with the low end in the 6.4.
Obviously it is handling the trailer well, but any regrets so far? Missing the diesel when you were climbing the grades? How steep were the grades when you had to drop to 2nd?
Thanks
Not a 6.4 owner but have a spreadsheet with some of this info. With a 20,700GCW that IB is running, a 4% is doable in 3rd but anything 5% or steeper is 2nd gear territory. That's assuming low elevation with good air. Steeper than 7-8% grade, speed will drop, but that's true of any truck that can generate around 375HP @ 60 with 20.7klb combined, diesels included. More than 400HP is needed beyond 8%.
