6.7L Cummins (2012) or 6.7 Ford (2011) - Need Advice

Maybe the reason is being told this truck will tow anything you can buy. I have heard this many times but not lately from owners of new 2500 trucks. Had one guy tell me our 2001 3500 chev dually was not enough truck for our 35 fr alpenlite. I laughed because he had the same model and a 99 F- 250.

I thought it was kinda odd the OP was comparing a 1 ton against a 3/4 ton.

I agree, that is why I suggested he find a RAM one ton to compare the Ford to.

Being the happy owner of a 2012 Ram, I went with it for two reasons, one being the reliability of the Cummins, and two the fact that it doesn't have DEF...didn't want to mess with it. I looked at Ford but they can't seem to figure out who they want to build their motors...not enough history for their 6.7 plus they had DEF, and GM wasn't even considered even though I could have gotten a GM discount.

Yeah, but for 2013 all Ram 6.7s have DEF so that video is just a poor selling point. I have a 2011 Ram 6.7 and yes the fuel mileage isn't where I would like it, but then again I didn't buy this rig for stellar fuel mileage. I bought it to haul my slide in camper and tow, period. With the auto and 4.10 gearing I manage 10.5 to 11.5 mpg with a 5,000 pound brick sitting on the back. No worse and maybe a bit better than my 2001 Ram 5.9 Cummins with 3.54 gearing.

The Ford is a good truck and I used to be a Ford man, but the Cummins is just better. The Ford and Cheby are faster in the 0-60 tests and 1/4 mile, but I didn't buy this truck for racing. The Cummins purrs under load and just goes and goes just like a big rig, oh, Cummins makes many of the engines in those too.

The Cummins is a medium duty engine, it's more robust, less moving parts, parts that can be bought from the dealership or from Cummins. If your truck breaks down and out of warranty Cummins can work on that engine.

The Ford 6.7 is awesome too, just that many simple repairs to the engine require the cab to be lifted on the pickup. That's ok while under warranty, but when your warranty is done and you have to pay then???? Ford builds that engine and therefore the dealer is probably the only one that will work on that engine.

I'll take a drop in fuel economy at least prior to 2013 models for the better engine.

I find it quite telling that when you buy a "BIG" Ford like an F-650 it doesn't come with a Ford diesel or trans. It comes with a Cummins engine and an Alison automatic.
If Ford is using parts from the other brands 2500 trucks in their 650 what do they know that they're not telling?

It's a secret but I found it out. They want to put sub par engines and transmissions in their best selling trucks. That way when they break they can deny warranties and cause ill will. They are doing this because they cannot keep up with production and want to kill sales. :B

BTW I am just being a smart ass here for those of you who think I am serious (and I am sure there are a few)
