Bill
I was thinking that way as well when I started my "window shopping"
2013 trucks sells for $50k.
I can buy new XL with 4WD and Crew cab for less than $49k.
With $14k discounts in Washington state, you can buy loaded new truck for $55k
Than I want to trade my 6l, what is hard to sell engine.
Trade-in estimators are giving me $11k for old truck.
I don't think I could sell it privately for $7k - TrackrigExplorer III have a 6.0, several friends have or had the 7.3 and some of them have gone to the 6.7. Besides the 6.7 being in the newer trucks meaning fewer other little things to work on, the ones with the 6.7s are all getting better fuel mileage besides more power.

Bill - Kayteg1Explorer III have slightly different mpg experience.
My F250 shortbed with 7.3 would make 14 mpg on best day.
6l in long dually delivers me 16 mpg all day long.
Rapports about 6.7 are talking 20's - jimh406Explorer IIII don't own a 6.7, but my observations are below.
The 6.0 is significantly more powerful than the 7.3. The 6.4 is marginally more powerful than the 6.0, and the 6.7 is marginally more powerful than the 6.4.
MPG wise, 7.3 gets better mileage than the 6.0. The 6.0 got better mileage than the 6.4. The 6.7 gets better mileage than the 6.4. The 6.0 and 6.7 are pretty similar in MPG.
Parts/durability wise, the 7.3, 6.4, and 6.7 are more reliable than the 6.0. The 6.4 is more durable than the 6.0 but has more "technology" to go wrong. The 6.7 is also more complicated than the 6.4 in some respects, but mostly better than the 6.4.
Finally, the 6.7 requires DEF.
In summary, the 7.3 is similar to the older Cummins. Less to go wrong, but less right with it. YMMV. - Kayteg1Explorer III am on the market for 6.7 and we have at least 2 topics discussing the option, but simple law of physics say that 440HP will beat 250 HP.
The difference will not be as big as the numbers might indicate as also "there in no replacement for displacement"
The 7.3l has low end torque untouchable in history.. well my 8V71 Detroit with its 450 rpm at idle can beat it, but can't put 5000 lb engine into pickup.
My direct experience discussed before was that 6l with automatic would move heavy trailer slower than 7.3 with manual.
But too many factors to consider.
My impression is that everybody who enters 6.7 will have famous sentence Willy Smith said in one of those alien ships movie
"I've got to get myself one of these" - brireneExplorerAs I don't have any direct experience I'll refrain from commenting...except to say that with everything I've read (and I've read alot), there's no comparison, with all due respect to the venerable 7.3. Apples to oranges. But as I said, I'll refrain from comment. ;)
