Cool, I was thinking there was some modification that would make everything all better in black tank land...
.... In my little world I had to stop myself from making a cage around the tank w/ 2" angle iron then insulating the whole thing.... still may for next winter:C
On some level I was happy you may be giving me instructions on a better method... almost disappointed:)
thanks for the fun man.
I love your heat sump/ fire pit, looks good and should hold heat well, will you be the lining in the back, where the water lines go, have a hardy board/ tile false cover??
It figures both you and UP are contractors...
I'm a do it yourself hack, but I take instruction well, and have spent some time under great bosses who knew their occupation well.
Sorry for side tracking your thread, thanks for the ribbing and the compliments.

Yeah, off-hand, quirky comments are often misunderstood on the Interwebs. I've gotta' learn to keep myself in check.
About the black tanks: I was thinking along the same lines, cage up the tank and insulate. They sell those RV tank heating pads but I've had real good luck with those gutter and roof heating cables. I'm thinking about a 40'heating cable inside the black tank insulated cage, weaved back and forth under the bottom of the tank and wrapped around the drain pipe ought to do the trick. A guy would need to be plugged into shore power or run a genset to use something like that but at least it would keep everything from freezing, even on the coldest of nights. I added in a branch circuit and receptacle location next to my tank just for this kind of thing.
Last night, I was covering up the insulation board next to the heater area. In haste, I forgot to make an access hole for the water lines. No problem, I'll just grab a hole saw and do it after the fact, I thought. Then I started looking how the water lines ae routed and realized that I may be able to make a straight run from the water tank and water heater, along the wheel well, and tuck everything up behind the shower stall. This would make those holes unneeded and be a lot more unsightly. I can still use the holes for fresh air supply, stick a small computer fan in there to move some air, or just cover them up. I'll have to determine all of this when I get to the plumbing. There are a lot of little designing bits like this to keep in order, in resto-trailer land. ;)
