Had just a few hours this morning to putz around with something mundane so I chose the venthood flapper repair. I think repo asked about this and others may be interested so I'll throw it up. I took my idea from a thread in the general DIY modifications section of this Forum. That fellow used some RC control cable, IIRC. The purpose is to have a mechanically closed flapper and still be able to have the fan exhaust through the vent. The pictures tell the story.
Original vent cover and insert with the flapper missing (it was taped to the insert).

New aluminum sheet flapper and rod for a hinge:

First bend of the flapper around the rod:

Bend completed:

Test fit:

Flapper installed on exterior vent hood:

Inside of flapper with spring hole and cable attachment hole:

Weatherstripping placed on flapper mating surface:

View of vent and flapper after reinstallation:

This is a great idea for keeping the flapper closed for traveling or when camped in cold weather.
