I'll agree that a hard floor is easy to maintain and has good life. Carpet runners add some comfort and can be shaken out easily. That's what I've always done. Who knows I might regret putting carpet in but if so will be easy to change out to something else. Time will tell. Now hardwood, that would be nice! Maybe Lumber Liquidators has some 3/8" hardwood flooring, 3/4" would be quite heavy.
