Thanks UP. I now know why guys pay a couple hundred for a good crimping tool, the die crimper I used was the cheapest route but my arm is still sore from all the wrenching, lol. The good thing about the die crimper is that you really don't need a go-no go tool to check your work. If you tighten the rings up correctly, they all come out even and perfectly the same.
I ended up rebuilding the relief flapper on the bottom of the air compressor. Sorry, but I was in a hurry so no pictures. Basically, the little diaphragm comp had sat unused for years and dirt/rust had infiltrated. I broke it down and cleaned it all up. Along the way I removed the flapper and had to tap a 3mm fastener into the housing to reinstall it. It now appears to be working with no leaking. Tomorrow will be the water test. My fingers are crossed.
