Don't you just love the tree huggers thinking they are doing the planet a favor by buying the latest and greatest hybrid. They don't have a clue about all the land that was mined, the energy used, and pollution caused in building their never ending supply of vehicles.
My clunker is 36 years old, looks and runs just fine. Think about the scrap heap caused by those that would have bought ten vehicles during those 36 years. Yes, I do have newer vehicles as well.
You obviously don't have a clue. My Prius was bought to use as a work route vehicle loaded with tools and parts for my job. Had nothing to do with trees or the planet. The handful of other people I know who have bought hybrids bout them for the mileage, not the planet. Nor do you know what you're talking about with manufacturing of vehicles. My previous ten vehicles are probably still on the road somewhere serving their owners well. And my new vehicles puts money back into our economy. Next.:B - JarlaxleExplorer II

It didn`t last 38 years, because it should have been off the road decades ago! that truck is an accident waiting to happen! no way that thing can be safe for road use. I`ve seen cars that people don`t take care of. I`ve refused to work on cars better than that need to go to the junkyard!
This is not a story to brag about, instead the owner should be ashamed and the truck should not be allowed to be licensed!
That`s the Dodge Guy in me...........now the car guy in me repeats all the above!!!!:M
Explain, in detail, EXACTLY what makes the truck unsafe. Be specific. - jerem0621Explorer IIJust recently have we (my DW and I) started buying new family cars. We have had two since 2013 (one was in an accident). We plan on keeping the Van for years. I don't want to trade, it's the perfect vehicle for our family when it comes to everything but towing a TT.
My Daily Driver is a 2000 Town Car...ain't worth nothing on trade but it's worth something to me just because it's reliable and easy for me to maintain.
My favorite truck was a 1993 Regular Cab Ford Ranger 2wd, 4cyl, 5 speed. I got rid of it because I got kids. lol. I should have kept it around just for household duty.
Now we are wanting to get back into RV'ing. I'm not looking new or newish...I'm eyeing Older Full size SUV's this time. Hope to find a good one and keep it around a while.
Bravo to this man for keeping his old beater going. Good job Sir!
Thanks!

Their truck a 54 Studebaker. They had taken a Dodge Diesel frame and running gear and put the Studebaker pickup body on it. They did a very nice job, even had A/C although the cab was a little tight.

- Adam_RExplorerProps to this guy for being smart and frugal or maybe it's just because he enjoys driving his truck. I drive 1 of 3 vehicles daily, one of which I've had for 21 years and it's currently 31 years old. Co-workers call it "Mater" or "Rusty," but they can't deny that it has character and has served me well. Looks like hell, but it has never, I repeat, never left me stranded and at 270,000 miles, I wouldn't, and don't think twice about driving it on a 1000 mile road trip. While my other two vehicles are newer and certainly nicer, I "like" driving this one best of all. It's the experience of driving it, for me as the driver, not trying to show off to people I could really care less about.
I think most of the naysayers here are jealous that he's content with what he has in life and has made you feel inadequate because you can't do the things he's capable of doing when it comes to maintaining and keeping a vehicle operational. I have no doubt the truck can keep pace with traffic where he drives it and stop when he needs it to. For you to claim it's dangerous and a threat to public safety puts you in the company of Ralph Nader. - turbojimmyExplorerI still can't get over the apparent lack of heat in that truck. It's 5 degrees F here and the heated seats in my Chevy truck couldn't get hot fast enough.
When I was younger I drove stuff long beyond their useful life, including things without heat or other modern amenities (though even our '33 Buick Victoria had heat). I'm thinking the guy drives it for shock value more than anything else. - BenKExplorerWhen my 1980 Silverado finally dies...that is exactly what I'm going
to look for
Another is a 1950's or older Dodge Powerwagon
A 1 ton preferred...then a 3/4 ton and if have to, a half ton
Love the Chevy in-line six. My 1970 FJ40's in-line six is Toyota's
copy of it.
Good analogy..."trading because the ash tray is full"...hadn't heard
that term in a long time, but so timeless and apt
Do know that as most metals age...it comes brittle and less strength.
Okay, as know that and making a conscience decision to do so
To me...way more 'cool factor' than any of the new vehicles and am so
put off by the current prices that are also raising. A for sure to
put a smile on my face every time it is driven
Heck, triple duces and headers...that would make it even more cool... - bovelloisExplorerRepair bill to me is different from maintenance expenses. Under repair, I'd put new brake pistons and lines, new water pump etc.
As to safety, I'd much rather drive along old farts like him than the idiots with new cars that text and drive, tailgate and cut in front as if they were playing videogame.
