Air Bags

I leveled my 2005 GMC 2500 with a 2" lift kit. I have a 6000lb unloaded trailer. I'm getting some reared sag when hitched up. I raised my L bracket but it did not take all the sag away. I'm looking at airlift or Firestone air bags. Should I be considering the 5000lb or 7500lb lift?
  • There are other options. Timbrens, SumoSprings, RAS. All will lessen sag, and no air lines needed, mostly install and forget. You can adjust the RAS to bring back a little unloaded rake and set it for various levels of weight help.

Probably so as I have never been very happy with the hard plastic lines.

My first few trucks with air brakes used copper for the air lines. Trucks run millions of miles with "hard plastic lines". If well supported, and rubber on the mounts should not be a issue.
On trucks, that have to go, and use lots of air, the only place they use braided stainless is right off the compressor, to deal with heat.
  • I've run 5,000 pound bags on 2 different trucks that were carrying a 4,000 pound TC in the bed while also towing a boat. I can't imagine you would need more lift.

I suspect you don't need them at all. Trucks are supposed to sag when you put weight in the bed. Had you not messed with the front end the truck would sit level when loaded like it's supposed too. It will probably ride better with the weight on the back. Adding bags essentially stiffens the suspension to keep it from sagging so it will likely ride harsher with the bags inflated.

I ran air bags on my trucks carrying the TC because I was running from 1,100 to 1,700 pounds over the truck's GVWR.
  • So, you’re looking for just a bit of assist. Idk why you would even consider 7500lb bags when you don’t actually “need” any bags.
And the plastic lines work just fine.

  • Cause and effect! Your rear should "SAG" as it then rides on the overloads like it should.

Never heard a bad word about Firestone.
