will it hurt for the a/c to run for extended amount of time when its hot outside say 4 or 5 hours straight

Most components in our RV's are not designed for heavy duty day after day, week after week, month after month use. People who decide to stay south twelve months a year soon discover this. What works great for a few weekends a summer may not do as well long term. If the OP is only asking about running it constantly for a weekend, no problem.
