Airstream>>

I been thinking about trading our Minnie Winnie for an airstream. But the DW is not happy about it. She claims that she loves our current T.T. This is creating a conflict between both of us. Its not pretty, we have been thru a T.T. Motor home, and this new one in the last year. She says there is something wrong with me. That no matter what I buy I am never content. Is she right?

Please advise..

Thank you,

  • Make sure you can stand up in the Airstream. I cannot especially with the rounded roof line.
  • Tell her if you get the Airstream you will be happy with it and keep it for a long time. That will make her happy. And you will have a trailer that outlasts the payments. Maybe that will also make her happy. Many consider Airstream the pinnacle of travel trailer ownership. That should make both you and her happy. So......if you and your wife want to be happy..... and who doesn't want to be happy.....go for it. I see no reason not to. Post pics when you get it.
  • Airstream = lots of hype, very little storage, cramped interiors, no slides. way over priced.

I remember years ago some folks we camped with traded a 15 foot TT for a whopping huge 22 foot Airstream. Parked them door to door and started unloading their old trailer into the new one. After a couple of hours the wife hollers to STOP! There is no more room in their Airstream. And we still had lots of stuff to transfer that ended up in the garage. That AS lasted maybe three months before it was sold and they moved back to a more conventional trailer.
  • Look at my signature line and you'll see what I've chewed through the past year!

EDITED: You're putting "form over function" in my opinion if you have to have an Airstream.
  • I have similar issues, but not quite as bad (been through ~20 cars in the last 20 years). It's tough for some folks to stick with certain things for very long. I know I'm doing my very best to not switch cars again for at least another 2-3 years, but history proves that it probably won't happen.

Is there a real reason for the change, or is it just an emotional decision? If there isn't a real reason then I would probably try to stick it out for a few years until there is one, but that's just me. In the end you have to remember "Happy Wife, Happy Life." I pissed mine off with a car purchase once about 6 years ago and sometimes I feel like I'm still paying for it.

    YMMV
  • Really sounds like you don't know what you want... Airstreams are beautiful but have so little storage for clothing etc. How long do you go camping for, how much clothing do you need, and food etc.?

We started out with a 22'Jayco FB, then 6 months later moved up to a Jayco 24FBS because we wanted the slideout as it gives you so much more room. Well 4 years later we just traded that in for a Jayco 266RKS - yes we have 2footitis. We love this new trailer and find that it has so much storage for clothing and everything. I love the big slideout with the comfortable couch, the bigger refrigerator, pantry and the linen closet in the bathroom, the corner shower, the big vanity and basin and the bed is so much more comfortable too.

If you ever have the opportunity to go to the big RV shows like the one in Tampa, FL in February you will see so many trailers with different floorplans. Maybe that will help you decide and your good wife too!

    A Happy Wife
  • You will have to answer your own question. However, it seems unlikely that many of us have had 3 different RVs in one year and still crave a 4th. We're on our 4th RV but that has taken us 16 years to get to #4.
