It's interesting that the rules for picture sizing was changed yesterday to " Pictures posted in a profile or within the text portion of a topic are not to exceed 800 pixels width with 640 pixels the recommended width, 480 pixel height or 100kb file size..."

By the way Whazoo has always posted in 800 pixels and this is what got him banned. At the time of his last trip report 640 pixels was a little more than a recommendation.

Granted the mods do have a tough job but it should require some common sense. There is an email address in the Forum Rules to comment about a moderators action. Perhaps those members as appalled as I am should test it out?

I saw and read all of Whazoo's original report and the new report and now I'm waiting for Paul Harvey to report THE REST OF THE STORY :(

If you want the rules to change, contact the moderator or start a thread with the reasons you feel there should be a change. The owners may get insight into an outdated rule or the thread poster may get insight into why the rule exists and should stay. Thinking that the rule should not apply to you while visiting a forum is a guaranty of rough waters ahead...

One constant irritation issue on these forums for at least the last few years is the posting of pictures, both for the moderators and for those posting. It has been mentioned over and over and I suspect the moderators are just as anxious to get it changed as any poster.

It truly is a shame that this forums flagship trip report poster and an un-named mod had to come to locking horns over an issue about an out dated screen width rule that really only pertained to antique CRT monitors whose displays were only 800 pixels wide. Practically everyone today has a wide screen format monitor that handles the entire rv.net screen with 800 pixels no problem, no scrolling.

Now that the rule has been changed and 800 pixels is permitted, this incident is no longer at issue.

Perhaps one day the two involved parties will kiss and make up pending there is enough Listerine in the world to make such a kiss possible.

Rarely are the moderators compensated for their time on forums. They donate their time because of their passion for the subject matter. Although some smaller forums are moderated by the owners, most are volunteers. However, spending personal time as a moderator does build a sense of ownership in how the forum progresses or operates.

Although I do not moderate here, I volunteer my services on other forums. It is up to me to evenly apply the rules and contact those do not follow them. While most forum members understand they are visiting someone else's "home" and need to follow "house rules" to continue to be welcomed, some will try walk line between what they feel is appropriate verses what they agreed to when they joined the forum. People that become a "maintenance headache" for the moderators at some point overstay their welcome regardless off their contributions and it is best they find a forum with rules that are more in line with their views.

No forum member or moderator is irreplaceable and there is no guaranty that everyone will get along. Those that can be civil and respectful to each other are ones you want on the forum (even when they have divergent views), but everyone needs to follow the rules of the forum that creates the baseline structure.

My post titled "Farewell Whazoo" included facts shared with me by Whazoo. One of our moderators PM'd me criticizing the post as biased, slanted, untruthful and one sided. I invited him to share his side on the story and let the tribute go on. But instead he deleted my entire post.

Why do the mods here have this kind of unchecked power? I don't see any value in a forum so heavily censored. Time to move on...
