Alpha Roof System (rubber roof)

My Koala came with a EPDM roof from Alpha Systems. From what I read, Dicor is the other major rubber roof player.

Dicor products for the roof are every where. The Alpha Systems roof products not so much.

My question is this. Can Dicor products be substituted for Alpha Systems products when caring for the roof?

Yep, just called the dealer whom I previously posted. Can't get it shipped. Dicor it shall be.

  • I also have an Alpha roof on my tt. I did call Alpha directly to ask them about using Dicor sealant products and they said that was fine (I wouldn't use any of the roof cleaners though)

I have recently found Apache Village RV in St. Louis shows the Alpha sealants on their site but it adds a ridiculous weight/shipping charge when I try to purchase online. I plan on calling them to see what real charges would be. I personally would rather use the products made by the roof manufacturer for that roof IF I can get a hold of them.
  • I recently heard that Keystone is now using this product on the Premier line. Any experience out there with this type of roof?
  • I wouldn’t hesitate to use a Dicor product on an Alpha roof…. More important than the brand name is if the product is safe and made for use on the type of roof you have…
  • I'm just wondering if Dicor sealant can be used on the Alpha System roof? I can get Dicor pretty much anywhere, not so much Alpha system product. At least, I've not noticed Alpha System stuff. It may have been there, and I not noticed.

Alpha supplies different kinds of roofing and rubber floor membranes… their recommendation says,

CLEANING AND MAINTAINING THE ALPHA SYSTEMS ROOF MEMBRANE

Proper care and maintenance of your Alpha Systems roof membrane is critical for years of trouble-free performance. Normal maintenance is simple, easy and requires no special materials.

Periodic cleaning (three to four times per year) is the primary maintenance required. Alpha Systems recommends using a non-abrasive household cleaner, such as Top Job or Spic-N-Span, and a medium-bristled scrub brush. Do not use any harsh or highly-abrasive products during cleaning. When finished cleaning, remember to thoroughly rinse the roof and sidewalls in order to remove any soap residue and to prevent streaking. CARE SHOULD BE EXERCISED WHEN WORKING ON TOP OF YOUR UNIT! THE ROOF MAY BECOME SLIPPERY WHEN WET.

DO NOT USE ACETONE, OR ANY OTHER PRODUCTS CONTAINING PETROLEUM DISTILLATES, ON THE ALPHA SYSTEMS ROOF MEMBRANE. USE OF THESE PRODUCTS WILL DAMAGE THE MEMBRANE.

Periodic inspection of the roof, during cleaning, is highly recommended. Check the membrane for signs of damage. Check the caulk/lap sealant used in all termination areas, and around all accessories and fasteners, for signs of cracking or voids.

The roof membrane can be cut or punctured by sharp objects. Caution should be used when placing any articles on the roof. If damage does occur, the membrane can usually be patched.

Alpha's membrane is quite inert and will resist weathering well. It does not require the periodic application of products to protect it from ultra-violet light or ozone. In fact, these products can often cause damage to the roof membrane.

“Traditional EPDM Rubber Roof Membranes have been the industry staple for over 20 years. The flexibility of EPDM allows the membrane to adhere to virtually any roof slope.

Alpha-Ply Roof Membrane To help OEMs achieve their goal of reducing weight in their units, Alpha developed a roofing membrane which is practically half the weight of EPDM. The Alpha-Ply membrane blends the flexibility of an EPDM membrane with the durability of a plastic membrane to provide the next generation of RV roofing.

Superflex Roof Membrane is a state-of-the-art roofing membrane engineered to provide premium performance for today’s demanding RV roof designs. SUPERFLEX Roofing Membrane is an Olefin-based single-ply membrane that is approximately half the weight of EPDM. SUPERFLEX Roofing Membrane is very stretchable and conforms to the multiple contours of today’s RV’s in a clean, chalk-free non-fade membrane.”

  • I have an Alpha roof also. If you read the instructions that came with your rig they suggest ONLY washing it with a mild soap and soft bristled brush. That how I do it have great results.
