Offering your opinion is one thing and I'm glad to hear both sides. However the constant non stop bashing reiterating the same argument over and over and over is old and to me diminishes your point.
One reported bent hitch where we have no proof if the hitch bent because it was defective or because the owner failed to properly torque down the hitch onto the ball in the bed is not evidence of anything. All it is at this point is a guess. Guesses are usually based on pre-conceived beliefs.
I love hearing carefully constructed and intelligent opinions, even if said opinions disagree with mine because that usually means you can engage in some very educational discussions. But when those opinions are based upon the strongly-held, yet completely subjective belief of "I know more than the engineers who designed a product, even though I'm not an engineer and don't know any of the design parameters", its hard to listen any further. We always have to remind ourselves that engineers for products and services bear the burden of liability from a professional and credibility standpoint. I'm not an engineer myself, but I work with different engineers on a daily basis and have done so throughout my career. You have to look long and hard to find one that doesn't take their profession very seriously. Yes, they make mistakes, but the margin of safety that's factored into their equations usually covers any sins.
I think that the Andersen UH is an excellent product, and I believe that it will do what they say. That doesn't mean that other hitches aren't as good. I think B & W products are excellent too. Heck, I switched from a Reese that was just fine to the Andersen UH, but that was because of the constraints of my TV.
