Used to live near you up in Bottineau, and Minot was a sometimes twice weekly trip for shopping. I understand traffic has gotten very tough in Minot, and sorry to hear about your accident.
That said, go with the diesel. All other factors considered, I think the towing RANGE of a diesel motor will outweigh other factors hands down.
It is nice to have applications now for ones cell phone (Gas Buddy for example) to find your next fuel stop, but it is nicer to have the greater range diesel gives you in order to have a little more choice and peace of mind when driving in unfamiliar areas without knowledge of where your next fuel stop is located.
