Having insurance, the insurance company has to 'make it like it never happened'.
In other words, you have a contract with the insurance company to buy your truck for market value if due to accident it ever becomes worth less than market value. The insurance company will provide you with a replacement truck of the same year, approximate same mileage, and condition. You can re-use the fifth wheel hitch, and other things in the truck (upgraded stereo with DVD player for example) and it should be 'like it never happened'.
I would stick with the diesel just because you are driving a lot of miles each month! You might not be happy with the power of a 6L gas, while you might be able to find a 8.1L gas with more power than your diesel, it will get much worst mileage, so probably don't want to go there unless your total mileage for the year is less than 5,000.
Good luck!
