Another question, whats this

[img][/img]

picture is below in next post,

There are 3 things I am looking at here.

The first is a white cap that appears to screw off behind the pilot light on the left. I assume that is to empty the water heater>

The second, to light the pilot light, turn the blue knob to pilot and light where the rusted part is right below the knob.

The 3rd, I assume the little metal lever is the pressure relief valve for the water heater.

Thanks,
David

  • Hey...I have a trick for getting at the drain plug. I use a foldable lug wrench from Harbor Freight Tools. One of the sides fits nicely on the plug and with the handle collapsed, you can easily get it in to place. Nothing should be too tight, so it works fine. I believe it is 7/8", but I'm not completely sure without checking. Since I keep the wrench in the trailer, I don't have to worry about finding the right socket set-up.
  • tested everything today. All worked great. Emptying the water heater looks like it is going to be fun. I have to search through the forum and see what tricks have been done with it.

Thanks everyone. We will be testing out our TT next weekend for the first time. Looks like it is going to be a bit chilly, but oh well, makes for good camping weather.

Do try it all out in your backyard before making a cool weather trip. Familiarize yourself with the controls and test them out.

Better to spend a night where you can jump online or run to the garage to get a wrench or whatever is needed.

  • Sorry, Golden. I am going to disagree with you about lighting it. I have the identical water heater and you're instructions were good with one exception...the blue valve knob is spring loaded. You don't push it in, you just turn it all the way. When you're lit and held for the 30-60 seconds, just let go of it. It will spring back about 1/8 turn and remain lit. It will then need to be turned to the "on" position and left there to function correctly.
  • Are you asking how to light the pilot?

Turn the valve 3/4 way, until Pilot is lined up with the top arrow. Then push in to bypass the safety, light the pilot, hold in the valve for about 30 - 60 seconds, until you can let it out and the pilot stays lit. IF after holding in the pilot for about 90 seconds, and it still will not stay lit, you need to replace the pilot thermocouple. The thermocouple is the small copper tubing looking item.

You are correct on the other items, take out the white plug to drain. Apply some teflon tape and hand tighten it before using it again. Tighten with a wrench only if you need to, to prevent it from dripping. Many people overtighten this plug, making it imposssible to get out again, and that is why they are plastic, easy to drill out without damaging the metal tank threads.

    Fred.
  • 1 and 3 correct.
2 Light pilot in other end of inside large tube that is below pressure relief valve
  • your answers to # 1 and #3 are correct. the answer to #2 is that rusted area is the air mixing port for the burner. you light the pilot in the large tube where the pilot light and the thermo coupler is
  • 1. Correct it is the plug for emptying the heater
    2. That is the gas feed tube, not sure of the correct name. Pilot is at the other end
    3. Correct on pressure relief valve
