- Nicholsfamily05ExplorerAs I said I wasn't so concerned with hiking up and it dropping but more of travel.
I'm not fond of the jaws that are on my new hitch. Granted it's not the one i asked for when we ordered new trailer and it was given to me for nothing and it's brand new.
I don't like how they lock in the middle of the pin instead of around the pin or like the flat bad completely straight across. To me looks like a lot of pressure on that joint and seems unnecessary.
So my reason for the bedsaver comes from that view. - rhagfoExplorer III

You folks made my paranoia go past the red line. A few years back i installed a Butch's Services bed saver on my Reese. :R
The problem with Butch's is its not automatic, likely to forget to latch it right along with the hitch. - HannibalExplorerApparently there is only one picture of damage from a dropped 5th wheel. Any brand 5th wheel hitch will drop the trailer if the pin is not latched in properly. Even ugly hitches that weigh and cost too much. :B
My product of choice with our 5th wheels and now back to a travel trailer is a set of ear plugs. Lack of focus on the job at hand due to distractions or wandering minds is the number one cause of dropped trailers or 5th wheels regardless of hitch brand. I've never dropped one and I used the same Reese 15k Classic 5th wheel hitch for 20 years in six trucks. - Dave_H_MExplorer IIYou folks made my paranoia go past the red line. ^^^^^^But very true. And believe it or not, I have a total of 12 tires and only carry two spares!! What do I do if I have three go flat? Well, I figure it's like dropping my trailer on my truck: not likely enough to buy more tires.
You spend your money where you want, and I'll use mine to travel with. :)

Nope, never had one, never had the need for one. A good hitch will keep you from dropping the trailer. I'll spend the money on fuel. :)
Now that is funny :R - fj12ryderExplorer IIINope, never had one, never had the need for one. A good hitch will keep you from dropping the trailer. I'll spend the money on fuel. :)
- Nicholsfamily05ExplorerThank you for all the replies.
I have found them on Amazon for about $250 with the two day shipping.
Then on eBay between $200-$300 all depending on shopping too.
We are going to pick one up just as that extra insurance.
My wife and I have a pretty good routine for hooking up.
She works the front jacks of the 5er and I back in. Our last hitch had a very distinctive metal on metal slam when the latch released and locked in place. This one does not.
But even after the latch locked we both would check the hitch and then do our pull test also.
So our routine is fine for hooking I'm more concerned with the hitch as we are moving.
But again small price to pay for some peice of mind.
Thank you again. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIHey I had to pay the guy $10 to take the pic, I want to get my moneys worth!
I know you and I can FIX things to work but many can't so that's why I would have a bed-saver if the hitch I was using was complicated at all.
YOU and I both know for a fact when we are hitched, many don't.
