I went from a 2005 6.0 PSD with pickup tuning to my 2015 6.7 CTD with chassis cab turning. Although there is a 10 year spread, the 325 horsepower remained the same and I never felt a need or want for more - How that horsepower is delivered between the two is quite different. My PSD had 570 lb ft of torque going to a 5R110 using 3.73 gears and my CTD has 750 lb ft going to an Aisin with 4.44's. The Powerstroke was faster off the line than my Cummins, but the Cummins holds speed better and generates peak horsepower at lower RPM's.
The noise from The CTD is lower in octave than my PSD, but I'm not sure if either is quieter than the other due to the differences in pitch. The CTD is definitely cleaner at the exhaust compared to the PSD, but I never saw my PSD smoke even though the tailpipe showed signs of particulates that the CTD does not.
My expectations of the truck is that I can comfortably tow in a civilized manner that is relatively quiet and clean. As long as I have sufficient reserves to be able pass the 80k lb trucks on grades and hold a comfortable cruising speed on the highways without shift drama in the transmission, I am happy with my choice. There is subjectiveness in my satisfaction so I don't expect anyone to agree, but you have to find what works for you.
