You don't want to ask me. One of my previous trucks was a 6.0 liter Powerstroke. I got rid of it when I started feeling that I couldn't depend on it. You can't say that the newer diesels are more reliable than the pre-emissions diesels. I see and hear all kinds of horror stories about DEF problems and other emissions related problems for newer diesels. Once they sort that stuff out, I may look into getting another diesel. Until then, I'm staying away from them.
I believe that part of the diesel problem is that the powers that be don't want them out there. So they invent all kinds of near impossible emissions goals that they know will add frustration and costs to owning a diesel. They're trying to break you so that you'll give up on the power and economy. Well, maybe not economy any more. Don't know why diesel prices are about $1 more than regular.
I'm a former Ford 6.0L owner too.....and I'm a very happy camper now! It's unfortunate but the 6.0L has inaccurately marred people's views of diesel trucks.
Oh, and diesel is much cheaper than gas in my area! :)
Wow! It's about a dollar more per gallon here in Kookifornia. Is your diesel cheaper, or gas more expensive? Here it's about $3 American for gas and $4 for diesel.
I was lucky with my 6.0 that it didn't strand me. The rear main seal and an exhaust problem were fixed under warranty. They pulled the cab off to fix it. The high pressure oil pump was the kicker. I wasn't about to pay the Ford price for it, so I did it myself. But it was painful. it was under the edge of the firewall and wayyyyy back on the engine. All because they put in a plastic oil screen that tore. That's when I lost confidence in my diesel. Haven't had one since. And I won't until they become more reliable.
I am on my third RAM diesel and bought a 120K/8yr warranty on the 2015. Hope I never use it! 40K and 2 2/3 yrs and only have flashes and recalls so far.
