^ Paranoia about the new trucks is just that. Yes there were a few fugly years, namely 07-09. After that fuel mileage still suffered but reliability went up. Add DeF/SCR in 2011 to 2013 had a few teething pains, but largely are as relaible as any older "holy grail" diesel.
This! As the old saying goes "People fear what they don't know". Just as with anything new, the first few years has to get the bugs worked out and things generally get more reliable as time goes by. The same thing happen to gas engines back in the late 90's when they received a huge emissions standard and they had EGR valves clogged and O2 sensors go out left and right. Now those failures are rare. The same thing happened with the diesel emissions.
As far as going from an older truck to a newer one. My father in law is unloading his 350k miles 2003 F350 6.0L and is waiting on a special ordered 2018 F350 6.7L. He is going to be very surprised on how it tows when he hooks that thing up to his fiver. Kind of like how surprised he was when he unloaded his 87 F350 6.9L diesel to get in his 2003 6.0L. Ironically he said the very same thing some of you guys are saying about the reliability of his old 6.9L versus his 6.0L, but after 150k miles I think he stopped comparing the two.
The more I know about the new emission diesels, the less I like them.
