They're not designed to last 16+ years. It's supposed to fall apart just before you make the last payment, so you go back to the dealer and trade it in on a new one.
Sure they can build them better but it's going to cost you. They know you'll never pay 2-3 times as much for a good design. Proof positive is all these flash-in-the-pan RV startups who produce a good product but can't even begin to compete on price. They go broke after a year or two. Heck even the ones that make the rehashed garbage have problems staying afloat.
