I've heard many people say, "Diesels are more efficient than gassers."
That's not necessarily true, I say, since to be fair you have to compare their efficiencies at the same compression ratio.
They say, "Huh? You can't do that."
If you don't, then you're comparing two different engines and you're handicapping the gasser.
